Art sets the soul free, not sure who first said it, but an accurate assessment. Here’s The Big Edge, a sculpture which can also easily be termed an installation at Aria in Las Vegas. Created by the artist Nancy Rubins the piece encompasses a collection of 200 boats, jutting out in a wild bouquet of color, edges, metal, plastic. Referencing so many different things, gives cause to consider water, or lack thereof in Vegas, art, how we see shape and size, something that’s very personal takes on a looming and almost menacing appearance. Is it over the top? Literally and figuratively. If you happen to be traveling through Vegas for a visit, there's more than just slot machines and expensive restaurants, it's a grown up city with art and culture everywhere.
