No seriously, not something you think about, but solar arrays set up floating on water, yeah it’s a thing and a pretty great idea at that. Water is a precious commodity, that, as we’ve seen with droughts in California and elsewhere out west is a huge problem, and will continue to be a problem as our planet continues to warm up. Throwing a couple solar panels over water probably isn’t going to make a huge difference on a global scale, but locally its an amazing idea. First off, of course the
solar panels produce nice clean renewable energy, second, having them on water especially in hot climates where water can evaporate is a good thing… finally solar panels do heat up and as they heat up they become less efficient, so having them on top of water where they can be cooled by the natural process of air and water, evaporation and condensation is a win win win. Good for the
environment good for us.
